dress codeThe Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica maintain a strict dress code year-round. All visitors must cover their shoulders and pants/skirts must come down to the knee. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes.
important informationThe Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Basilica have strict security measures in place. Due to the presence of metal detectors at entrances, it is forbidden to carry the following:
  • Weapons and blunt objects (knives, long umbrellas, etc.)
  • Glass bottles, aerosol sprays, alcohol
  • Bicycles, skates, segways
  • Luggage
  • Pets
Large bags and selfie-sticks are not permitted inside the Vatican. There is a free cloakroom service after the metal detectors in the Museums. Strollers are permitted.PLEASE NOTE:St Peter’s Basilica is NOT open on Wednesday mornings and may be closed without notice.
